Gonzalez Protocol

By Jeannine Walston

What is the Gonzalez Protocol?

The Gonzalez Protocol was promoted as a treatment program for people with cancer and other health conditions. Administered by Nicholas Gonzalez, MD, an immunologist in New York City many years ago, Dr. Gonzalez developed his protocol through studying the work of Donald Kelly, DDS, MS in the 1980s. Kelly treated cancer patients with therapies based on discoveries about pancreatic enzymes by John Beard, DSc, a Scottish embryologist, dietary and detoxification approaches used by Max Gerson, MD, a German physician, as well as his own research and theories.

The Gonzalez Protocol has three components—diet, supplements, and detoxification routines. Dr. Gonzalez performs hair analysis on all patients with the intention to collect information about balances and imbalances. According to Dr. Gonzalez, one of the primary goals along with anti-cancer activity is to balance the nervous system between sympathetic and parasympathetic. In his model, cancer patients with solid tumors are sympathetic dominant and cancer patients with blood cancers are parasympathetic dominant.

Diet
Prescribed diets are based on metabolic type determined through Dr. Gonzalez’s years of clinical experience and hair analysis. Diets may range from nearly vegetarian to red meat daily. Often, people with solid tumors are moderate vegetarians and those with blood cancers are advised to eat meats. Fresh vegetable juices must also be prepared and consumed twice daily for many patients.

Supplements
Supplements are based on Dr. Gonzalez’s protocol and somewhat modified through the patient’s biochemistry determined through hair analysis. Prescribed supplements include a variety of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, antioxidants, animal glandular concentrates, and other food concentrates. People with cancer consume proteolytic enzymes or pancreatic enzymes as the main anti-cancer supplement. Most patients take approximately 200 pills daily and throughout the day, including in the middle of the night. The pill schedule is carefully timed, especially since the pancreatic enzymes must be consumed on an empty stomach. Therefore, patients can only eat at certain times throughout each day.

Detoxification Routines
Detoxification routines include daily coffee enemas and cleanses for the liver, gallbladder, intestines, and other functions of the body, which are designed to enhance overall function as well as processing and excretion of metabolic waste. Coffee enemas are done twice daily in the morning and afternoon. Additional daily detoxification routines may include baths, skin brushing, and other techniques. Some detoxification routines such as liver, gallbladder, and intestinal cleanses need to be done approximately every 15 to 25 days for a five day period.

Dr. Gonzalez emphasized that patients must be 100% compliant with his protocol to achieve results. Compliance translates to several hours each day to prepare and consume foods, take pills, and perform detoxification routines. The bags of pills taken throughout the day must also be organized approximately every 15 to 25 days and this process takes 3 to 4 hours.

What are the potential health benefits of the Gonzalez Protocol?

Dr. Gonzalez reported responses such as stabilization, reduction, and eradication of disease in his patients with cancer that are compliant with his program. These health claims are not associated with published clinical trial results, although some case reports exist. For those patients that achieve an anti-cancer response on his therapies, the average required length of time is 18-24 months on the Gonzalez protocol.

Improved quality of life has also been reported in people with cancer doing the Gonzalez protocol. Yet, side effects are associated with the therapies such as fatigue, inflammation, and other ailments.

Along with cancer, Dr. Gonzalez treated people with conditions such as allergies, autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, and more.

Do you know specific cancer patients treated by the Gonzalez Protocol?

For two and a half years, Jeannine Walston was treated in the Gonzalez Protocol, and it did not work for her against a brain tumor. From December of 2007 to July of 2010 when some of her time, energy, and money focused on the Gonzalez protocol, she had MRI scans about every 6 months and all had tumor growth. Now, Jeannine’s journey has changed since then. You can learn more about her experiences in her cancer story.

Jeannine knew a lung cancer patient and he responded positively to the Gonzalez protocol for many years. In addition, she viewed other cancer patients in the news reporting their positive responses.
