Candida is a type of fungus of any of the candida species, of which candida albicans is the most common. Candida albicans is present in everyone’s intestinal tract usually kept under control by the immune system and beneficial intestinal bacteria. However, sometimes this gets out of balance and candida infections develop. Candida treatments are then necessary to restore balance.

  • Unfriendly microorganisms such as disease-causing bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and parasites can also upset the balance
  • Elevated heavy metals

Are there other types of fungal infections?

The majority of fungal infections are caused by candida. However, fungus comes from any kingdom of fungi including molds, rusts, mildews, smuts, mushrooms, and yeasts.
