On March 18, 2019, I became a 21-year brain tumor survivor. I am extremely grateful!!!!! Thanks to anyone who has supported me in my journey.
Since 1998, I have learned a tremendous amount about brain cancer. The National Brain Tumor Society 2019 Head to the Hill Policy Agenda explains the dire needs.
“More than 78,000 people received a primary brain tumor diagnosis in 2018, and for those whose diagnosis was a malignant tumor, the survival rate is less than 34%. There are more than 130 different types of primary brain tumors, as well as metastatic brain cancers, and too few significant advances have been made in treating this collection of diseases. The 2018 Annual Report to the Nation on the state of cancer from the National Cancer Institute states that although death rates decreased for many types of cancer, they increased for brain cancer in men and women. In addition, pediatric brain tumors continue to be the leading cause of cancer death in children.”
As I’ve experienced some highs and lows, witnessed extraordinary pain in brain cancer patients, and knowledgable about research, I know more treatments are necessary to improve quality of life and survival. With my quest to help this important cause, I’ll be attending 2019 Race For Hope on May 5th in Washington, DC with Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2) and National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) to raise money for brain tumor research. My goal is to fundraise 10K for brain tumor research, and donations are tax-deductible. Any donation will be helpful! Learn more here. Please know I wholeheartedly appreciate your support.
